How Much Does It Cost to Charge an Electric Car in Israel?

Electricity is significantly cheaper than petrol — but how much does charging an EV actually cost per km, per session, and per year? The numbers are compelling, especially when you optimise your charging with a smart platform like Greems.

Cost Per kWh in Israel

Israel's residential electricity rate is approximately 0.55–0.65 NIS per kWh on a standard tariff. On a Time-of-Use (ToU) off-peak tariff — which Greems can schedule automatically — the rate drops to approximately 0.35–0.45 NIS per kWh during night hours. This makes a significant difference over time.

Cost Per Full Charge

A typical EV with a 60kWh battery costs approximately 33–39 NIS to charge from near-empty on a standard home tariff. On an off-peak ToU tariff, that same charge costs 21–27 NIS. Compare this to filling a petrol car with a 50-litre tank at current Israeli fuel prices (around 6.80 NIS/litre): approximately 340 NIS. The EV advantage is approximately 10:1 on a per-tank equivalent basis.

Cost Per Kilometre

Most modern EVs consume approximately 15–20 kWh per 100km in real-world Israeli driving conditions. At the standard home rate, this works out to approximately 0.08–0.13 NIS per km. At ToU off-peak rates, as low as 0.05–0.09 NIS per km. A typical petrol car in Israel costs approximately 0.45–0.55 NIS per km in fuel alone.

Annual Savings

For a driver covering 20,000 km per year: petrol cost approximately 9,000–11,000 NIS. Home EV charging cost approximately 1,600–2,600 NIS. Off-peak optimised EV charging approximately 1,000–1,800 NIS. Annual saving: 7,000–9,000 NIS — every year, for the life of the vehicle.

How Greems Maximises Your Savings

Greems automatically schedules all charging during the cheapest ToU tariff windows, tracks your exact energy consumption and cost per session, and provides detailed reports so you always know exactly what you're spending. For fleet operators, this data drives reimbursement accuracy and cost allocation across drivers and vehicles.
